Jiaqi Yu is a freshman in Crescent Valley High School, she makes use of her proficiency in both Chinese and English to contribute to the community.

In the winter break of 2022, she participated as a volunteer in the online celebration of Chinese New Year at Willamette Chinese School (WCS). She was one of the MCs, the main editor of the scripts for the program, and the coordinator for the other MCs. Meanwhile, she was one of the two founders of the school magazine WCS Xinbao, which has provided a platform for all the Chinese learners to communicate, learn and showcase their work. She warmly invited other children to contribute to the magazine, help to explore and extend the children’s talents. She is working as an Editor-in-Chief, including the designing, writing, and checking works. The magazine is published once a month, till now there have been twelve magazines published total. Magazines are disseminated through social media, emails, and websites.

During the last summer vacation, she was invited to be a teacher at Willamette Chinese School to start a new Chinese learning class for non-Chinese-speaking students. She participated in volunteer activities of the Oregon Chinese Coalition in the Corvallis area.

Oregon Chinese Coalition is proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Therefore, it is a great honor to present the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to Jiaqi Yu.
