Sophia Wang - Silver Award
School: West Linn High School
Category: Young Adults (16-25)
Hours: 204.5
Sophia is a senior at West Linn High School. She started volunteering at OHSU as a remote volunteer for the Pathology department. She participated in a project to compare manual and AI analyzed flow cytometry data. Flow cytometry is used to diagnose and monitor immunologic disorders and status. She wrote programs to organize the data and manually analyzed it to help train the AI.
Sophia also volunteered in-person at OHSU in Doernbecher. She did arts and crafts with children who were waiting for their appointments. She helped keep children entertained while also being safe. She met a lot of families from all across the West Coast and got to know some of the healthcare workers working there.
It was interesting to be able to volunteer in different areas of OHSU. She learned a lot from both opportunities
Oregon Chinese Coalition is proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Therefore, it is a great honor to present the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to Sophia Wang.
