Emily is a current sophomore at Camas High School. Her passion for dance sprouted at the age of four, where she started her training in classical ballet. Through the years, shes learned various different styles of dance such as contemporary, traditional Chinese, jazz, and hip-hop. Through these art forms, she proudly promotes cultural diversity within and beyond the community with International Performing Arts. She hopes her efforts in performing and organizing these events will bring a positive impact and awareness to the Chinese communities in the area. Emily is also a leader of the Jade Dance Team. She has led various performances such as the Vancouver Chinese New Year Celebration, Rose Parade, and the OCC Chinese Festival showcasing beautiful dances and promoting cultural exchanges. Through the Jade Dance Team, Emily has found much joy in serving the community and dancing with her friends and she hopes to bring that happiness to the people around her. This year, Emily was also an MC for the OCC Chinese Festival. She worked hard on writing scripts and preparing for the celebration. Her goal is to be able to showcase the magnificence of Chinese culture and represent the larger community through her service.
Oregon Chinese Coalition is proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Therefore, it is a great honor to present the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to Emily Jiang.
