With support from Prosper Portland, we were able to repair the damaged doors and windows of Wong’s Laundry building, which had endured repeated breakages caused by individuals with drug addiction and mental illness often lingering nearby. The work also addressed some structural issues, such as the use of non-tempered glass and insufficient waterproof framing.

We remain committed to ensuring that Wong’s Laundry stays in the hands of Chinese Americans so that its legacy will be preserved for generations to come.

By pooling together the wisdom of stakeholders and artists alike, we decided on the color combination shown in the pictures. The fresh paint has brought a sense of calm and new life to this part of Chinatown.
