Sophia Pi is a freshman at Northwestern University studying CS and Economics who is extremely passionate about community service. In high school, she led the Portland Junior Scientists organization, growing the club’s volunteer base by more than 200% and devoting hundreds of hours to teaching hands-on science to Title One elementary schoolers. Before heading to college, Sophia spent her summer helping to teach a young dance team from Southeast Portland. Sophia cares deeply about serving all members of the community, young or old, and volunteered more than 65 hours at the senior assisted living center in Bethany. She is also highly involved in her Chinese cultural community and volunteered in various activities including emceeing for the Chinese Cultural Festival at Pioneer Square during the pandemic, planting trees for the Tualatin Wildlife Refuge, and campaigning for the Lone Fir Letter Writing Campaign, for which she was nominated as a KXL Daily Hero.
Oregon Chinese Coalition is proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others. Therefore, it is a great honor to present the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to Sophia Pi.
