Raymond Chong

Due to a significant decrease in youth registrations for the in-person conference, we have made the decision to transform the format into video-recorded interviews with a group of students on-site. These interviews would be uploaded to our YouTube channel and shared on our social media platforms to reach a wider audience and create a greater impact. We were incredibly fortunate to have secured the participation of distinguished speakers, Lynda Walker and Raymond Chong. They have covered topics related to services and social justice, which have become particularly relevant to our youth following the emergence from the pandemic.

Drawing from her remarkable 52 years of service at St. Mary’s Home for Boys, Lynda Walker showcased the profound impact on individuals, particularly the most vulnerable youth population. Her experience highlighted the power of dedication and unwavering commitment, emphasizing that through our collective efforts, we can truly make a difference in people’s lives.

Raymond Chong delivered a powerful presentation, spanning 100 slides, in which he explored the history of deep-rooted social injustices within our nation. The core message emphasized the importance of inspiring and motivating youth to take action by actively engaging in social and political spheres.

During the Youth Conference, the OCC Board announced year 2023 recipients of the Voice of Civic Engagement Award and the Youth Empowerment Award. These awards symbolize the recognition of their remarkable achievements in actively participating in civic affairs and making a meaningful impact on those around you. Through their dedicated efforts, our community had gained significant momentum in upholding our mission to promote Chinese culture and heritage, provide support to the Chinese American community in Oregon, and advance our community’s interests through advocacy, education, and engagement.

Congratulations!
